Art Is Trash: the street art of Francisco de Pájaro on video
This page lists every public video of the YouTube channel Art Is Trash – 1,513 videos and almost 18 hours of footage. Behind the channel is the street artist Francisco de Pájaro, who has been turning what the city throws away into short-lived artworks since the late 2000s. His motto, El arte es basura – art is trash – is both the name of the project and its method.
Where it began: Barcelona, 2009
The oldest video on the channel dates from December 2009: El Arte es Basura, Barcelona 2009. It was followed by street art in Barcelona in 2010, the short film “El Arte es Basura” by Francisco de Pájaro and the twelve-minute piece I Love the City (2011). These early videos show the idea in its purest form: discarded furniture, boxes and mattresses on the pavements of Barcelona become figures, faces and statements – until the rubbish truck takes them away.
From Barcelona to the world
Art Is Trash did not stay in one city. On the channel you can follow the project to London (2013), Chicago (2014), New York (2015) and Palma de Mallorca, and in recent years to Madrid, Rome, Valencia and Ceuta. Most of the more than 1,300 shorts, however, were filmed in Barcelona – the city remains the artist's main canvas.
Documentaries and interviews
If you want to understand the person behind the work, start with the documentaries: the Art Is Trash documentary (2024), the earlier documentary from 2022 and the documentary from 2018. Television also took notice, for example in the report on RTVE 2 Catalunya. In the interview in Seoul and the home interview about his autobiographical book, Francisco de Pájaro talks about his path and his ideas; the most recent conversation is simply called Interview (2026).
Exhibitions and galleries
Street art that disappears the next morning also lives on indoors: the 25-minute video of the solo exhibition Art Is Trash (2021), the exhibition in Düsseldorf (2026) and the works shown at the Artevistas gallery in Barcelona. More videos from this gallery are collected on Artevistas art gallery videos.
